Please Save the Green | 2010

Exhibited in 4th Block Environmental Poster Biennial in Kharkiv

Artist’s statement:

What has the Earth given us, and what have we given it in return? We cut down trees, kill animals, pollute our lands and seas, and insult the Earth by expecting it to protect us from earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, and other disasters.

We clean and decorate our homes with wooden furniture. We wear clothes from top brands and speak intellectually, but we waste non-recyclable plastic bags. We bury them with residual oil deep in the sea and deceive ourselves into thinking everything is fine. Are we truly human? Why is our behavior so unkind, and why do our egoism and greed persist?

I strive to be environmentally conscious, using every opportunity to share my message. When I bought these cookies from an Armenian confectioner in Tehran during Christmas, their pine tree shape was so poignant that I couldn’t bring myself to eat them. This inspired me to design a series of posters for the 4th Block Environmental Poster Biennial in Kharkiv, Ukraine by using my New Year’s message: “Please Save the Green!”
